This will be a recap of the week. On Tuesday we had our weekly meeting discussing the athletic events that would be taking place during the week. Butler hosted three events this week. They include: 11/5/16 (Saturday) Butler football vs. Morehead State Eagles @ 1 PM, Butler men’s basketball vs Saginaw Valley State Cardinal @ 7 PM and 11/6/16 (Sunday) Butler women’s basketball vs Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles.
Saturday was a long and busy day for Butler Athletics. Football played first. This was the last chance for the Butler football team to get a win on their home field. The team, fans, and school wanted a home win because it was senior day. However, it just wasn’t meant to be. The final score was Butler: 28 – Morehead State: 54. Here are the box scores. 1st 06:53 MOR - WARD, Matt 24 yd field goal 14 plays, 67 yards, SCORE: 3 0 1st 00:35 MOR - HIGGINBOTHAM, J 9 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 6 plays, 38 yards, SCORE: 10 0 2nd 14:50 MOR - WALL, C.J. 40 yd fumble recovery (WARD, Matt kick ), SCORE 17 0 2nd 10:14 MOR - ELLIOTT, Jalen 48 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 4 plays, 70 yards, SCORE: 24 0 2nd 06:20 MOR - WARD, Matt 23 yd field goal 7 plays, 51 yards, SCORE: 27 0 2nd 02:10 MOR - JONES, Trevor 28 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 5 plays, 80 yards, SCORE: 34 0 2nd 00:09 BUTLER - TEMPLE, Pace 20 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 8 plays, 82 yards, SCORE: 34 7 3rd 13:21 BUTLER - TEMPLE, Pace 11 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 2 plays, 15 yards, SCORE: 34 14 3rd 10:26 MOR - ROBINSON, C. 19 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 7 plays, 49 yards, SCORE: 41 14 3rd 03:38 MOR - WARD, Matt 26 yd field goal 10 plays, 57 yards, SCORE: 44 14 4th 14:45 MOR - ELLIOTT, Jalen 77 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 3 plays, 80 yards, SCORE: 51 14 4th 10:59 BUTLER - COLLIER, Cord 10 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 8 plays, 66 yards, SCORE: 51 21 4th 04:00 MOR - WARD, Matt 38 yd field goal 8 plays, 41 yards, SCORE: 54 21 4th 02:21 BUTLER - COTTER, Danny 27 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 5 plays, 49 yards, SCORE: 54 28 In my opinion, the Butler football team doesn’t have enough gifted athletes in skill positions to win consistently. Their overall record is now 4-6. They have an away game next week against the Drake Bulldogs. The Butler men’s basketball team played later that night. It was a crowded Hinkle Fieldhouse that night. There were around 10,000 fans in attendance. The game between the Butler Bulldogs and Saginaw Valley State Cardinal would be an exhibition match. Butler is expected to do good things this season in the Big East and NCAA Division 1 basketball. SVSU is expected to do good things this season in Division 2. SVSU is the 4th ranked D2 team in the nation. The Bulldogs were coming off of a big win over Wabash while the Cardinal was coming off a close loss to powerhouse Michigan State. It was shaped up to be a good game. Butler came away win an impressive win. The score was Butler: 77 – SVSU: 50. Kelan Martin #30 led the team in scoring with 15 points. Just wait until the regular season starts. I think Butler fans are in for a treat. The Butler women’s basketball team played today. It was an exhibition match as well. However, the ladies weren’t as successful. The lost a close one to Southern Indiana. It was the little things that lost them the game. They also had some recently injured players so that may have played a factor. The final score was Butler: 56 – Southern Indiana: 61. The lady dawgs will struggle this season if they don’t make some corrections. I was the host for all three games. Neal and I went over pre-game, in-game, and post-game tasks. Basketball is different from football and soccer but I understand it all. Well, that’s all I got. Tune in next time. GO DAWGS!!!
