Friday and Saturday were a couple of long busy days for me. On Friday Butler hosted Cathedral High School’s homecoming football game against St. Xavier from Cincinnati. It was one of the largest crowds that I have seen at the Butler Bowl. It was great to see so much support from each school’s fan base. The atmosphere was amazing. Cathedral HS doesn’t have a home field so they wanted someplace special to play for their homecoming. They definitely made themselves at home because during the course of the game the rowdy crowd broke a section of the Butler bleachers. Neal said, “Cathedral’s bill just got more expensive.” They came in with a record of 4 – 0 while St. Xavier came in with a record of 1 – 2. However, I knew that St. Xavier was not to be underestimated because they have a history of having a very good program. They also play a highly difficult schedule. The game was a great one. It came down to the wire. The Cathedral Fighting Irish fought hard but the St. Xavier Bombers fought harder. A last minute touchdown and an interception by the Bombers sealed the comeback win. It was a heart-breaker for Irish fans but they should be proud of how they battled. They just need to learn how to close out tough games. I was in charge of parking operations and was the host for the visiting St. Xavier team. I watched the game from the field. The little kids were wild. I mean they were giving security fits. I was glad that wasn’t my duty because the parents shouldn’t let their kids act out like that. On Saturday Butler hosted 8 pee wee football games. The pee wee football organization wanted to host this event at a special venue to honor the life of Deshaun Swanson. He was a ten year old football player that fell victim to gun violence here in Indianapolis. It’s always tragic to hear stories like this but it was great to see people come together in remembrance. We need to be better as parents and people because our choices effect more than just ourselves. We were there literally there all day but it was fun watching the 8u and 10u (8 and under kids / 10 and under kids) play football. Some of these kids had some serious skills. It’s exciting to watch kids grow. I can’t wait until I’m watching my son play football of whatever sport he chooses. We had every type of game victory: blowout victories, overtime victories, last second scoring victories, and defensive victories. Some of my friends that I went to high school with and played football with were coaching different teams. Shout out to my friend Jerome Cook. It’s good to see that they are giving back to the youth because football can change lives in a positive way. I operated the scoreboard. It was my first time operating the scoreboard. It is a lot more active than soccer. There was a hilarious announcer that I worked next too all day. He was from Gary, IN let me. Although, he was from the Westside while I’m from the Eastside of Gary. He was cool. It’s always good to work with good people. It makes the time go faster and it doesn’t feel like work. Neal also bought me lunch, which was good. I appreciate that a lot. The hours were long but I was doing what I loved around good people. You can’t ask for more than that. Well, I could actually get paid but this internship offers priceless experience that will prove helpful in my future. Well, until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!!
