Yesterday, Butler hosted it’s Monday Night Futbol event. During this special event I prepared game day operations, was the host to the visiting team & officials, and operated the game clock. You know the usual. The Butler men’s soccer team would face the Denver Pioneers. During this event over 250 Chick-fil-A sandwiches and Butler giveaway items were passed out amongst the fans. At halftime there was a Soccer Goal Shootout Challenge between two people for a Butler prize pack. The weather was a nice cool night and the crowd turnout was pretty good. This was a battle between top 10 opponents. Butler came in ranked at #9 while Denver was ranked at #7. This would be one of the most anticipated matchups of the men’s soccer season.
As I watched the game I noticed that the game was being played very physically and very fast with much control. It was a chess match between to identical teams. When I say identical I mean that they played the same, they were around the same size, and used a similar strategy. Each team was waiting for the other to slip up. The question was who would slip first? Butler had been having a rough week or so in sports. None of the athletic programs have recorded a win in a little over a week. I was hoping that the men’s soccer team would turn that around. However, Denver proved too much to handle. Butler slipped up first and Denver took full advantage of it. One mistake lead to a Pioneer goal made by Blake Elder. The final score would be Butler: 0 and Denver: 1. This would be the Bulldogs’ third loss of the season. It will most likely take Butler out of the top 10 rankings. Sometimes it just happens like that. You win some and you lose some. We had out weekly meeting today. It is fall brak at Butler but the sports keep rolling. The events we have this week include: Friday (10/14/16) Butler volleyball vs Villanova Wildcats @ 6 PM, Saturday (10/15/16) Butler volleyball vs Georgetown Hoyas @ 6 PM, and Sunday (10/16/16) Butler women’s soccer vs Seton Hall Pirates @ 1 PM. It’s a simple week for events. Hopefully we will get some wins. Well, until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!!
