Yesterday was the longest day that I have spent at Butler University thus far. I got there early AM and didn’t leave late PM. I was in charge of overseeing parking. ESG security would work the parking lot and I would make sure things were running smoothly. I had to make sure that they had enough parking passes. With that, I had to monitor how many passes that I provided for book keep purposes. I also handled the cash including cash drops and cash pick-ups. As it got closer to game time the parking lot became more and more crowded. It was full of fans from both teams that were tailgating, playing music, drinking, mingling, and just overall having a good time. For a smaller school it was pretty live out there. It got busy at times because the Butler Classic Volleyball Tournament was going on and I had to be host to the visiting football team. Franklin, the visiting team brought 3 busses full of players. I mean they brought everybody totaling out at about 130 players and coaches combined. I showed them to their locker room and got them credentials for the press box, which I had to get back after the game. Once the game started my work with the parking lot were done. I had to collect the remainder of the money and parking passes to take inventory. Butler made a good chunk of change just from parking alone. I then handed the money over to Alex Perry, assistant athletic director of business operations. After that I watched the game with my fiancé and my son. It was nice. That’s a perk that I have as an intern. I can get people free parking passes and tickets to athletic events. I had to get back to work if they called me over the radio. I also was still the visiting teams host so I took care of my duties with them at halftime and end of the game. It was a great night for football and a great day for an intern, even though it was long.
Saturday night was Butler’s first home game of the season. They played the Franklin Grizzlies. The Grizzlies were coming off a big win whereas the Bulldogs were coming off a loss. However, the day would belong to the dawgs. Butler defeated Franklin 59 – 14. It was a great win to rejuvenate the team. Next week Butler plays an away game against Taylor University. Well, until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!
