Today, the Butler women’s soccer team played against the Seton Hall Pirates. It would be senior day for the lady dawgs. There are 5 seniors on the Butler Bulldog women’s soccer roster. The seniors include: #1 Elizabeth James, #6 McKenzie Muchow, #7 Serina Kashimoto, #11 Hannah Farley, and #20 Tessa Faulkens. They honored the seniors with a nice presentation.
The lady dawgs were looking to get their first win in the month of October. They succeeded in that effort defeating the Pirates 2-1. Goals were scored by #27 Jamison Midgley and #8 Shannon McDevitt. It was a good win but not good weather. It was rainy but no lightning thank goodness. I’m glad I was working in the press box. I stuck to my usual role for soccer matches. They have another game Thursday. Stay tuned. Well until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!

Yesterday, Butler hosted it’s Monday Night Futbol event. During this special event I prepared game day operations, was the host to the visiting team & officials, and operated the game clock. You know the usual. The Butler men’s soccer team would face the Denver Pioneers. During this event over 250 Chick-fil-A sandwiches and Butler giveaway items were passed out amongst the fans. At halftime there was a Soccer Goal Shootout Challenge between two people for a Butler prize pack. The weather was a nice cool night and the crowd turnout was pretty good. This was a battle between top 10 opponents. Butler came in ranked at #9 while Denver was ranked at #7. This would be one of the most anticipated matchups of the men’s soccer season.
As I watched the game I noticed that the game was being played very physically and very fast with much control. It was a chess match between to identical teams. When I say identical I mean that they played the same, they were around the same size, and used a similar strategy. Each team was waiting for the other to slip up. The question was who would slip first? Butler had been having a rough week or so in sports. None of the athletic programs have recorded a win in a little over a week. I was hoping that the men’s soccer team would turn that around. However, Denver proved too much to handle. Butler slipped up first and Denver took full advantage of it. One mistake lead to a Pioneer goal made by Blake Elder. The final score would be Butler: 0 and Denver: 1. This would be the Bulldogs’ third loss of the season. It will most likely take Butler out of the top 10 rankings. Sometimes it just happens like that. You win some and you lose some. We had out weekly meeting today. It is fall brak at Butler but the sports keep rolling. The events we have this week include: Friday (10/14/16) Butler volleyball vs Villanova Wildcats @ 6 PM, Saturday (10/15/16) Butler volleyball vs Georgetown Hoyas @ 6 PM, and Sunday (10/16/16) Butler women’s soccer vs Seton Hall Pirates @ 1 PM. It’s a simple week for events. Hopefully we will get some wins. Well, until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!! On Saturday the Butler football team took on the Marist Red Foxes for their 2016 Homecoming Game. There was tailgating, alumni gatherings, fraternity / sorority group gatherings, and the Bulldogs Beauty Contest going on in the parking lot before the game. It was a site to see. It was a beautiful day to play football. I would say low 70s with plenty of sunshine. I was in charge of hosting the visiting team and prepping game-day operations. The Bulldogs came into the game with a 2-3 record while the visiting Red Foxes came in with a 1-3 record. Both teams were looking for a win to get back on track. The Bulldogs and the Red Foxes fought long and hard but it would be Marist that would come out on top. Check out the scoring summary below:
The final score would be Marist 30 – Butler 21. Butler’s secondary couldn’t handle the Marist wide receivers. They were just too fast and athletic. I wanted to play so bad because I could have helped them out in the secondary. Anyone who knows me knows that I used to lock wide receivers down on my island. The passing attack had a huge impact on the game. It was frustrating to watch. However, in close games like these it comes down to who wants it more. Obviously, Marist wanted it more that day. The Bulldogs are now 2-4 with the next game at Davidson. This season is shaping up to be a bad one. There still is time to salvage the rest of their season and turn it into a positive note. Well that’s all I have. Tonight is Monday Night Futbol. Stay tuned for my next post. GO DAWGS!!! Last night we had our women’s soccer match against the DePaul Blue Demons. It wasn’t a good showing from the lady dawgs. The Demons defeated the Bulldogs 1-0. Honestly, the score could have been worse than that. The Demons dominated the game. They were more aggressive and had a 13 to 1 shot ratio. That’s horrible and also not like the lady dawgs that I know. They have lost two in a row. I hope they don’t make it a third. I had the usual role. Homecoming is tomorrow. Stay tuned.
GO DAWGS!!! I apologize for my tardiness but on Tuesday we had our weekly meeting. We did the usual. This week’s athletic events include: Thursday (10/6/16) Butler women’s soccer vs DePaul Blue Demons @ 7PM, Saturday (10/8/16) Butler football homecoming vs Marist Red Foxes @ 1PM, Butler volleyball vs Xavier Musketeers @ 4PM, and Monday (10/10/16) #7 Butler men’s soccer vs #8 Denver Pioneers @ 7PM. I hope to see some good Butler match-ups and wins. There will also be some special events taking place over the weekends so you will just have to tune in.
By the way, this week marks the half way point of my internship. This internship is a 200 hour internship and I have logged 115 hours thus far. There are only 85 more hours to go. I see it as the glass being half full. Let’s get it. Well that all I have today. Until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!!! Saturday and Sunday were full of some exciting Butler match-ups. Saturday Butler football played the San Diego Toreros. Butler came into the game at 2-2, whereas San Diego came in at 2-1. However, San Diego would leave with a 3-1 record. The Toreros beat the Bulldogs 44-10. It seemed like everything was going right for the Toreros and wrong for the Bulldogs. It wasn’t a good game at all. The Toreros had 526 total offensive yards and 6 touchdowns. They have a lot to work on in order to beat Marist University for their homecoming. I hope they get it together because I don’t want them to get embarrassed for their homecoming. Homecoming will be one of their bigger crowds of the season. I was the host for the visiting team and I also helped with game day operations.
Later that night Butler men’s soccer played the Georgetown Hoyas. #7 Butler came in at 7-1-1 after a tough loss to Indiana. Georgetown came in at 2-6. The Bulldogs would deliver another loss to the Hoyas’ record. It was a great showing from both teams but the dawgs came out on top 4-2. Goals were scored by Isaac Galliford (1 goal), Lewis Suddick (1 goal), and David Goldsmith (2 goals). The men’s soccer team looks like a contender for the NCAA National Championship Tournament. However, we will have to wait and see. Sunday the Butler women’s soccer team played the Providence Friars. The lady dawgs came in with a record of 8-2-1 whereas the Friars came in at 7-3-1. These are two of the top teams in the Big East Conference. The lady dawgs had not given up a goal since September 4. However, that streak would end today. The Friars would defeat the dogs 1-0. The lady dawgs fought hard but didn’t come away with the win. At the beginning of the game I thought to myself that the girls seemed a little beat up. That may have played a factor in the game because they didn’t look like their normal selves. You’ll know my role for soccer games. This internship offers me an opportunity to experience college sport first-hand. I will continue to learn and grow. Well until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!! Today, we had our usual weekly meeting. It went very smooth as usual. We have another jam-packed weekend ahead of us. We have events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The list of events includes: Friday [9/30/16] Butler volleyball vs Providence Friars @ 6:05 PM, Saturday [10/1/16] Butler football vs San Diego Toreros @ 1 PM, Butler volleyball vs Creighton Bluejays @ 6 PM, Butler men’s soccer vs Georgetown Hoyas @ 7 PM, and Sunday [10/2/16] Butler women’s soccer vs Providence Friars @ 1:05 PM. We went over our roles, responsibilities and special events. Some of the special event thats are taking place this weekend include: The Real Dawgs Wear Pink Weekend, Men’s Soccer Alumni Pre-Match Reception, Butler Cheer-Off Clinic, and Hall of Fame Introduction. It looks like it’s going to be an interesting weekend. Well, until next time, be blessed.
GO DAWGS!!!! Yesterday, the Butler men’s soccer team played the Providence Friars in a Big East Conference contest. Saturday was a beautiful day to play soccer. The Bulldogs are still ranked #10 in the nation. They displayed their dominance once again winning 2-0. Butler scored two penalty kicks in the win. They were scored by Lewis Suddick and Jared Timmer. It was a smooth night even though Neal Smith wasn’t there. He was in Dallas, TX for the weekend. Todd Morrissey ran the operation instead. I had the usual role. Good win and good work. Well, until the next time, be blessed.
GO DAWGS!!! Yesterday was a simple day. We had our weekly meeting and hosted an event. The meeting only lasted 15 minutes. We discussed the games for the week, the special events taking place, and the roles of each person involved. Only a few people attended the meeting because Butler was having something called “Pick a Seat.” Pick a Seat is an event that takes place over a couple of days in which season ticket holders come in a select their seats for Butler basketball. Men’s basketball at Butler is the fan favorite so the event is a big deal. Waves of people were coming in and out of Hinkle Fieldhouse all day. I’m sure they will continue to pour in for days to come. The events taking place this week take place on Tuesday, 9/20/16 @ 7 PM (men’s soccer Butler Bulldogs vs Evansville Purple Aces) and Saturday, 9/24/16 @ 7:05 PM (men’s soccer Butler Bulldogs vs Providence Friars). The men’s soccer team is ranked #10 in the NCAA national rankings with a record of 5-0-1. The Dawgs acted like they were the number 10 team in the nation by dominating the match all night long. The Purple Aces did leave with some dignity. The final score was Butler: 3 and Evansville: 1. It was a great night for soccer. There were hundreds of soccer kids that came out for the match. Before the game and during halftime they set up 20 mini soccer goals so the kids could play around. It was quite a site to see all of those kids playing. Well until then, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!! Friday and Saturday were a couple of long busy days for me. On Friday Butler hosted Cathedral High School’s homecoming football game against St. Xavier from Cincinnati. It was one of the largest crowds that I have seen at the Butler Bowl. It was great to see so much support from each school’s fan base. The atmosphere was amazing. Cathedral HS doesn’t have a home field so they wanted someplace special to play for their homecoming. They definitely made themselves at home because during the course of the game the rowdy crowd broke a section of the Butler bleachers. Neal said, “Cathedral’s bill just got more expensive.” They came in with a record of 4 – 0 while St. Xavier came in with a record of 1 – 2. However, I knew that St. Xavier was not to be underestimated because they have a history of having a very good program. They also play a highly difficult schedule. The game was a great one. It came down to the wire. The Cathedral Fighting Irish fought hard but the St. Xavier Bombers fought harder. A last minute touchdown and an interception by the Bombers sealed the comeback win. It was a heart-breaker for Irish fans but they should be proud of how they battled. They just need to learn how to close out tough games. I was in charge of parking operations and was the host for the visiting St. Xavier team. I watched the game from the field. The little kids were wild. I mean they were giving security fits. I was glad that wasn’t my duty because the parents shouldn’t let their kids act out like that. On Saturday Butler hosted 8 pee wee football games. The pee wee football organization wanted to host this event at a special venue to honor the life of Deshaun Swanson. He was a ten year old football player that fell victim to gun violence here in Indianapolis. It’s always tragic to hear stories like this but it was great to see people come together in remembrance. We need to be better as parents and people because our choices effect more than just ourselves. We were there literally there all day but it was fun watching the 8u and 10u (8 and under kids / 10 and under kids) play football. Some of these kids had some serious skills. It’s exciting to watch kids grow. I can’t wait until I’m watching my son play football of whatever sport he chooses. We had every type of game victory: blowout victories, overtime victories, last second scoring victories, and defensive victories. Some of my friends that I went to high school with and played football with were coaching different teams. Shout out to my friend Jerome Cook. It’s good to see that they are giving back to the youth because football can change lives in a positive way. I operated the scoreboard. It was my first time operating the scoreboard. It is a lot more active than soccer. There was a hilarious announcer that I worked next too all day. He was from Gary, IN let me. Although, he was from the Westside while I’m from the Eastside of Gary. He was cool. It’s always good to work with good people. It makes the time go faster and it doesn’t feel like work. Neal also bought me lunch, which was good. I appreciate that a lot. The hours were long but I was doing what I loved around good people. You can’t ask for more than that. Well, I could actually get paid but this internship offers priceless experience that will prove helpful in my future. Well, until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!! |
Special ThanksI would like to give special thanks to select parties. Thanks Neal Smith for this internship opportunity. Thanks Tiffin University for preparing me for my path ahead. Thanks to both family and friends for all the support, especially my mother & father. R.I.P. Kalvin Harris Sr. Most of all thanks GOD for the blessings that you have bestowed on my life. Archives
