Dear Neal,
I appreciate the opportunity for allowing me to intern with you and Butler Athletics. These last 4 months have been great. I have learned and seen so much. This experience will be beneficial to me moving forward in my career. I can’t thank you enough for that. I met some amazing people at Butler and everyone welcomed me with open arms. I feel like I made some real connections and lasting memories that won’t be forgotten. I hope that you have enjoyed my presence and found my efforts beneficial to you and Butler Athletics. It was an honor to work with you. With the assistant director of internal operations position being available I pray that our working relationship may continue. Sincerely Kalvin, P.S. Go Dawgs

Last night I completed my 200 required internship/mentorship hours. However, I will finish out the remainder of the week. I have three events that I’m scheduled to work and I intend to keep my word. Butler has been good to me so I won’t back out on them now. Well, moving on. Last night the Butler men’s basketball team faced the Norfolk State Spartans. I was the host for the officials. Hosting the officials means I escort them to and from the locker room and get them anything they need. Butler even gives them food after the game. That’s one way of keeping the refs on your side. Good job.
The game between the Bulldogs and Spartans was a blow out. It was projected to be a 25 point spread. However, Butler beat them by more than that. The final score was Butler: 91 – Norfolk State: 55. Leading scorers for Butler were #51 Nate Fowler (17 points) and #0 Avery Woodson (15 points). However, it was a team effort to get such a convincing win. It was a 36 point victory. That’s good as they head to the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational. I have family in Vegas. I wish I could go. I have a women’s basketball game tonight so stay tuned. GO DAWGS!!! Today the Butler volleyball team would play their final game of the 2016 season. The Butler Bulldogs would face the DePaul Blue Demons. It was senior day so they honored their seniors with a special ceremony. Jessica Klingensmith #7 was the only senior on the Butler volleyball roster. She is getting a bachelor’s in bio-mechanical engineering which means she is very intelligent. Klingensmith received flowers, a framed jersey with her name on it and a bag full of miscellaneous goodies. Butler also gave flowers to the seniors of DePaul. That says a lot about their program. I was the host and the scoreboard operator. The lady dawgs showed-up and showed-out for the last game of the season. Butler defeat DePaul 3-0. It was a dominating performance. Set scores were: (set 1) Butler 25 – DePaul 16, (set 2) Butler 25 – DePaul 11, & (set 3) Butler 25 – DePaul 19. Leaders in statistics for the Bulldogs were Anna Logan (15 kills), Christina Porada (2 aces), Jessica Klingensmith (4 blocks), Makayla Ferguson (28 assists), and Taylor Takeda (15 digs). Leaders for the Blue Demons were Myah Reed (7 kills), Caitlyn Coffey (2 blocks), and Colleen Smith (18 assists & 7 digs). Butler will finish the season with a record of 20-14. The Blue Demons will finish with a record of 13-17. Good work ladies. I have a men’s basketball game tomorrow so stay tuned. GO DAWGS!!! Yesterday I worked my first volleyball game. I’ve watched a few but never worked on. I was in charge of operating the scoreboard. Neal said I needed practice because I would be operating the scoreboard for the 2016 Big East Volleyball Tournament. It’s a big honor for Butler to host this tournament and I’m glad to be a part of it. Volleyball is one of my top 5 sports to watch.
The Butler Bulldogs faced the Marquette Golden Eagles in a volleyball match that decide their fate. The Bulldogs needed to win the match in order to keep their Big East Tournament hopes alive. However, the lady dawgs couldn’t pull out the match win. Marquette defeated Butler 3 sets to 1: (set 1) Butler 25 – Marquette 22, (set 2) Butler 20 – Marquette 25, (set 3) Butler 20 – Marquette 25, (set 4) Butler 22 – Marquette 25. Marquette got the victory with strong efforts from Taylor Louis (25 kills), Sara Blasier (45 assists & 16 digs). Butler played hard though. Their leaders were Anna Logan (18 kills, 2 aces, & 3 blocks), Makayla Ferguson (41 assists), and Taylor Takeda (20 digs). It was a disappointing lost but they have one more match on Sunday. Hopefully they go out with a bang. Stay tuned. GO DAWGS!!! Today the Butler Bulldogs would face the Creighton Bluejays in the 2016 Big East Men’s Soccer Championship. Both teams have battled all season long to get to this point. The atmosphere was amazing for this match-up. There were about 2,500 in attendance and it was a beautiful day for soccer.
I’ve watched the Butler men’s soccer team all season long. This game was the most physical game that I’ve seen thus far. It was literally a battle. The men will definitely feel it tomorrow. However, it was an exciting game. The young men were playing their hearts out. At the end of it all one heart would be broken. The Bluejays would walk away with the broken hearts. Butler defeated Creighton 2 – 1. Goals were scored by Myles Englis of Creighton, Isaac Galliford and Eric Leonard of Butler. The Bulldog won means that they get an automatic spot in the 2016 NCAA National Men’s Soccer Tournament. Over the past months I’ve gotten to know some of the players and I’m proud of them. I hope they do well in the national tournament. However, for now they should enjoy being Big East Champions. GO DAWGS!!!! On Friday the Butler women’s basketball team faced the East Tennessee State Buccaneers. I was the host for this game. This game would be their first regular season game. Both teams were looking to start the season off with a win. However, only one will come away with the victory. I’ve watched the lady dawgs play a couple of games by now. They have look good at times and bad at times. I think if they focus on doing the little things well then the big things will follow. On the other hand, the Buccaneers seemed very athletic and came in with a lot of emotion. I thought it would be a good test for Butler. As the game went on you got the feeling East Tennessee State would run away with it. However, Butler fought back into it, even taking the lead at one point. However, the Buccaneers proved too much for them in the end. East Tennessee State defeated Butler 68 – 59. The Buccaneers won due to some tremendous scoring efforts from #15 Tianna Tarter with 24 points and #2 Shamauria Bridges with 23 points. These two were awesome for East Tennessee State. On the other hand, Butler had a player that had a good scoring day as well. #24 Kristen Spolyar had 25 points. She was a bright point despite the loss. The Bulldogs need to learn from this loss and move on. On a side note, the Butler men’s basketball team defeated North Colorado 89 – 52 last night. The Butler women’s basketball team redeemed themselves today defeating Bradley 58 – 56. GO DAWGS!!! There are 6 teams that make it into the Big East Soccer Championship Tournament. The 6 teams that made it in the 2016 tournament include: DePaul Blue Demons (6th seed), Xavier Musketeers (5th seed), Creighton Bluejays (4th seed), Villanova Wildcats (3rd seed), Butler Bulldogs (2nd seed), Providence Friars (1st seed). On November 6 the first round matches were played. #4 Creighton played #5 Xavier and #3 Villanova played #6 DePaul. Creighton defeated Xavier 3 – 1 and Villanova defeated DePaul 3-1 due to penalty kicks (PK’s) after the 2nd overtime.
Yesterday the semifinal matches were played. #1 Providence played #4 Creighton and #2 Butler played #3 Villanova. Creighton defeated Providence 2 – 1. Butler defeated Villanova 1 – 0 in the 2nd overtime. It was a dominating performance from both defenses or some would say a stagnant performance from both offences until 3:30 in 2nd OT. A header from #20 David Goldsmith was the winning goal. The senior forward was selected Co-Offensive Player of the Year and All-Big East First Team for 2016. On a side note, other Butler players received Big East honors as well. Honors include: Jared Timmer (All-Big East First Team), Mitch Ostrowski (All-Big East Second Team), Isaac Galliford (Big East All-Freshman Team), and Lewis Suddick (Big East All-Freshman Team). The win was a team effort and this is a talented Butler team. They will need an even greater team effort to win the Big East Soccer Championship. Butler and Creighton will play the championship match on Sunday, November 11. I intend to be there. Stay tuned. GO DAWGS!!!! This will be a recap of the week. On Tuesday we had our weekly meeting discussing the athletic events that would be taking place during the week. Butler hosted three events this week. They include: 11/5/16 (Saturday) Butler football vs. Morehead State Eagles @ 1 PM, Butler men’s basketball vs Saginaw Valley State Cardinal @ 7 PM and 11/6/16 (Sunday) Butler women’s basketball vs Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles.
Saturday was a long and busy day for Butler Athletics. Football played first. This was the last chance for the Butler football team to get a win on their home field. The team, fans, and school wanted a home win because it was senior day. However, it just wasn’t meant to be. The final score was Butler: 28 – Morehead State: 54. Here are the box scores. 1st 06:53 MOR - WARD, Matt 24 yd field goal 14 plays, 67 yards, SCORE: 3 0 1st 00:35 MOR - HIGGINBOTHAM, J 9 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 6 plays, 38 yards, SCORE: 10 0 2nd 14:50 MOR - WALL, C.J. 40 yd fumble recovery (WARD, Matt kick ), SCORE 17 0 2nd 10:14 MOR - ELLIOTT, Jalen 48 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 4 plays, 70 yards, SCORE: 24 0 2nd 06:20 MOR - WARD, Matt 23 yd field goal 7 plays, 51 yards, SCORE: 27 0 2nd 02:10 MOR - JONES, Trevor 28 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 5 plays, 80 yards, SCORE: 34 0 2nd 00:09 BUTLER - TEMPLE, Pace 20 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 8 plays, 82 yards, SCORE: 34 7 3rd 13:21 BUTLER - TEMPLE, Pace 11 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 2 plays, 15 yards, SCORE: 34 14 3rd 10:26 MOR - ROBINSON, C. 19 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 7 plays, 49 yards, SCORE: 41 14 3rd 03:38 MOR - WARD, Matt 26 yd field goal 10 plays, 57 yards, SCORE: 44 14 4th 14:45 MOR - ELLIOTT, Jalen 77 yd pass from GAHAFER, Austin (WARD, Matt kick ) 3 plays, 80 yards, SCORE: 51 14 4th 10:59 BUTLER - COLLIER, Cord 10 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 8 plays, 66 yards, SCORE: 51 21 4th 04:00 MOR - WARD, Matt 38 yd field goal 8 plays, 41 yards, SCORE: 54 21 4th 02:21 BUTLER - COTTER, Danny 27 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 5 plays, 49 yards, SCORE: 54 28 In my opinion, the Butler football team doesn’t have enough gifted athletes in skill positions to win consistently. Their overall record is now 4-6. They have an away game next week against the Drake Bulldogs. The Butler men’s basketball team played later that night. It was a crowded Hinkle Fieldhouse that night. There were around 10,000 fans in attendance. The game between the Butler Bulldogs and Saginaw Valley State Cardinal would be an exhibition match. Butler is expected to do good things this season in the Big East and NCAA Division 1 basketball. SVSU is expected to do good things this season in Division 2. SVSU is the 4th ranked D2 team in the nation. The Bulldogs were coming off of a big win over Wabash while the Cardinal was coming off a close loss to powerhouse Michigan State. It was shaped up to be a good game. Butler came away win an impressive win. The score was Butler: 77 – SVSU: 50. Kelan Martin #30 led the team in scoring with 15 points. Just wait until the regular season starts. I think Butler fans are in for a treat. The Butler women’s basketball team played today. It was an exhibition match as well. However, the ladies weren’t as successful. The lost a close one to Southern Indiana. It was the little things that lost them the game. They also had some recently injured players so that may have played a factor. The final score was Butler: 56 – Southern Indiana: 61. The lady dawgs will struggle this season if they don’t make some corrections. I was the host for all three games. Neal and I went over pre-game, in-game, and post-game tasks. Basketball is different from football and soccer but I understand it all. Well, that’s all I got. Tune in next time. GO DAWGS!!! I had 2 events for this Halloween weekend. Yesterday, it was Butler men’s soccer vs. Marquette Golden Eagles. Today, it was Butler women’s basketball vs Hanover Panthers. I was the host for both games.
The soccer match against Marquette was an important one because a win or a loss would affect the rankings for the Big East Tournament. It was also senior night which means it’s the last regular season home game. The Bulldogs have had an impressive season thus far. It would be good to see them in post season action. Butler didn’t disappoint. The final score was Butler: 2 and Marquette: 1. Butler goals were scored by David Goldsmith and Lewis Suddick. The Marquette goal was scored by Diego Nunez. Butler plays Xavier next week to wrap up the season. As the fall sports come to an end the winter sports start up. The first game of the season would be an exhibition match against the Hanover Panthers. Exhibition games offer a look into how teams look and what they need to work on. Based on the track record and talent of both teams it seemed like Butler would win this game without a problem. I was right. The lady dawgs won with the score of Butler: 91 and Hanover: 39. Even though Butler won they have some things to improve upon in order to beat more talented teams. I look forward to watching the women’s basketball team as the season goes on. Well, that’s all I have. Until next time, be blessed. GO DAWGS!!!! I’m a little behind so let’s do a recap of the week. On Tuesday we had our weekly meeting discussing the up & coming events for the week and people’s roles / responsibilities during each event. These meeting allow Butler to stay organized and on the same page.
On Thursday night, Butler women’s soccer went against the Creighton Bluejays. The Bulldogs came into the game at 9-5-2 and the Bluejays came in at 8-4-2. The lady dawgs needed to add a win to their total due to the Big East Tournament standings. Butler accomplished their objective. The final score was Butler: 2 and Creighton: 0. Goals were scored by Serina Kashimoto (9th goal) and Paige Monaghan (4th goal). Assists were made by Kyra Cooke and Brenna Pawelkowski. It was a good win for the ladies. On Saturday, Butler football went against the Dayton Flyers @ 1PM. Butler came into the game at 3-4 while Dayton came in at 5-2. The Bulldogs are coming off a win at Davidson but the fans want a win at home. That request was denied. The final score was Butler: 16 and Dayton: 31. The Bulldogs haven’t had much success at home losing the last 3. They have 1 more chance to get a win at home against Morehead State in a few weeks. Here are the box scores. 1st 12:10 UD - EURITT, Jack 24 yd pass from JESKE, Alex (WILL, William kick ) 7 plays, 50 yards, SCORE: 7 0 1st 07:02 UD - SKIBINSKI, Ryan 23 yd pass from JESKE, Alex (WILL, William kick ) 6 plays, 41 yards, SCORE: 14 0 2nd 10:59 BUTLER - BEVELHIMER, Dre 36 yd field goal 4 plays, 4 yards, SCORE: 14 3 2nd 07:03 UD - PALIN, Ian 15 yd pass from JESKE, Alex (WILL, William kick ) 9 plays, 70 yards, SCORE: 21 3 2nd 01:07 UD - PROPHIT, Sean 1 yd run (WILL, William kick ), 9 plays, 75 yards, SCORE: 28 3 3rd 06:38 UD - WILL, William 38 yd field goal 14 plays, 69 yards, SCORE: 31 3 3rd 00:44 BUTLER - COTTER, Danny 9 yd pass from WEAVER, Malcolm (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick ) 4 plays, 68 yards, SCORE: 31 10 4th 07:40 BUTLER - SCACCIA, Anthon 7 yd run (BEVELHIMER, Dre kick blocked), 12 plays, 72 yards, SCORE: 31 16 Later that evening the Butler men’s soccer team went against the Seton Hall Pirates. The Bulldogs came into the game at 8-4-1 while Seton Hall came in at 3-9-1. The game was projected to be an easy win for Butler but that wasn’t the case. Both teams battled and only a single goal was scored. Butler’s own Eric Leonard scored the goal assisted by Isaac Galliford and Marco Charalambous. They have one more home game until the start preparing for the post season. I played a role in the game day operations for each event. I love operations and that’s what I want to do. That is also what I have been applying for. Pray or me as I search and hope to get a job in the field that I love. GO DAWGS!!! |
